Indonesian island of Nusa Dua The Pacific Business Engagement (PBE), a side-event of the Indonesia-Pacific Forum for Development (IPFD) (8\/12), was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in collaboration with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (KADIN). The event, which drew 90 people from the private sector both in-person and online, aimed to promote business interactions among entrepreneurs and business associations in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Timor-Leste.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Abdul Kadir Jailani, Director General for Asia-Pacific and Africa Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, stated in his opening remarks that there are three important approaches to strengthening relations between Indonesia and the Pacific. First, encouraging cooperation between Asia and the Pacific within the framework of the ASEAN Outlook for the Indo-Pacific. Second, increase business and trade interactions to hasten economic recovery. third, jointly representing the Pacific’s interests to the international community.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in his remarks, KADIN Chairman Arsyad Rasyid emphasized the importance of energy transition in mitigating the effects of climate change and potentially creating new jobs in Indonesia. The purpose of this forum is to discuss the economic potentials of various sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure, energy, and manufacturing.<\/p>\n

Justin Tkatchenko, Foreign Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, welcomed the arrival of investors and expressed appreciation for learning from Indonesia’s economic development experience. Meanwhile, Adalizja Magno, Timor-Foreign Leste’s Minister, sees great potential in the presence of Indonesian banking sectors to facilitate Indonesian business in Timor-Leste.<\/p>\n
