About Boating Industry Association in Australia (BIA)
The Boating Industry Association (BIA) is the peak industry body which represents the interests of boating industry businesses and is an advocate for the boating wider community.
Boating is a way of life for many families in Australia, and it is estimated that 5 million people participate in some form of boating each year. The vast majority of which occurs in family runabouts and paddle craft.
The Federal Government says more than 85 per cent of the population live within 50km of the coast. More than 20 per cent of all Australians engage in some form of boating activity annually.
The boating economy generates significant social benefits through employment, much of which is supported by family businesses. The industry has a turnover of $8 billion, directly employs more than 28,000 people with more than 14,500 contractors. Seventy-five per cent are in small businesses, employing local workings and supporting local communities.
