EFE-Egypt, an affiliate of the EFE Network, is an independent not-for-profit organization registered under the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity (#783). EFE-Egypt develops programs and curricula to meet local labor demands that are not being met by the current labor supply. We execute an exhaustive market needs analysis at the beginning of each calendar year to better understand the needs of the job market and tailor our programs accordingly.

Our mission is to Provide unemployed underprivileged Egyptian youth under the age of 30 with professional/vocational training, job placement and alumni support to allow them to secure employment opportunities where they can grow economically and socially. “EFE-Egypt” also aims to secure equal female participation in the training programs, as an initiative to empower women in the community.

By scaling its operations, EFE-Egypt has prioritized the geographic expansion of its programs and impact. Through the support of USAID, it has established three Career Development Centers in public universities in Qena, Port Said, and Alexandria, thereby widening its network and impact. In 2015, EFE-Egypt was also awarded a grant by the International Organization of Migration (IOM) to implement a project aimed at the provision of employment services in areas with increased likelihood of illegal youth migration in the Delta Region.

EFE-Egypt, is headquartered in Giza, Egypt; with a geographic, programmatic reach covering over 10 other governorates.

What We Do

Egypt is one of the hardest places to get a job due to the disconnection between the education outputs and the employment market.Despite the country’s rapidly growing youth population,
employers here consider access to talent a top business challenge.
Companies are hesitant to hire young workers – even when they have the right skills. Many youth are unwilling to pursue all of their employment options, or do not know how. Traditional education is not working: youth with higher degrees are more likely to be unemployed.
Most people see a crisis. We see an opportunity.

The Need

  • Awareness of how to find and apply for job opportunities.
  • Proactive mindset and expectations that reflect reality.
  • Soft and hard skills for market needs today, and tomorrow.
  • Opportunities not limited by gender, class, or geography.

EFE-Egypt Model

Curriculum and training customization according to real market needs:

First, we analyze local labor markets and talk to employers to understand where there is demand for entry-level employees, and what skills they need. Then, we create targeted youth training programs that link youth to employment or the wider world of work. Partnerships with thousands of companies, education institutions, and foundations enable us to offer job placements and other follow-on support.

EFE Network

EFE-Egypt is an affiliate of the Education For Employment (EFE) Network, the leading youth employment organization in the Middle East and North Africa that transforms the future with youth through the dignity of work. The EFE Network operates in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Yemen, with support hubs in the USA, Europe, and the UAE. With more than 2,700 public and private partners and 2,000 certified trainers, the EFE Network has linked over 108,000 youth to the world of work.

EFE’s strength lies in its network of locally-run NGOs, or EFE Affiliates, each led by a local Board of Directors and composed of local staff who develop locally-sensitive solutions to youth unemployment. Our local teams are reinforced by experts in our support offices who provide technical assistance and capacity building among EFE Affiliates to focus on operational excellence.

Our Ambition

The Middle East & North Africa (MENA) is home to the largest youth population in the world while also recording the highest levels of youth unemployment. This young population represents a great untapped potential and we are convinced of the impact this generation’s talent and energy can have on the future of the region.

This high youth unemployment level is mainly due to the mismatch between the needs of employers and the competencies of young job seekers. The education system does not prepare youth enough for today’s and tomorrow’s jobs. EFE-Egypt provides youth with career orientation and skills training towards occupations with growth outlook.
