The ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC) in Korea

ABOUT THE KFDA

Welcome to the ASEAN-Korea Centre’s official website.

Over the last two years, ASEAN and Korea have continued to work steadily together to overcome major hardships and build back better amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. It has not only accelerated the supply of vaccines in the region through vaccine supports and production cooperation, but has also expanded free trade cooperation and strengthened global supply chains through the signing of bilateral Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Agreement, with the latter entering into force early this year.

2022 will thus be a year when ASEAN and Korea can fully overcome the adversities of the COVID-19 pandemic and create an inclusive and sustainable future together by maintaining this strong cooperative momentum and by further enhancing its driving force.

As an international organization mandated to promote cooperation between the ASEAN Member States and Korea, the ASEAN-Korea Centre will take lead in establishing a strong foundation for economic and social recovery between ASEAN and Korea towards building a future-oriented and mutually beneficial partnership.

First, the ASEAN-Korea Centre will contribute to the efforts for economic recovery and growth in ASEAN and Korea by promoting innovative and sustainable economic cooperation, including in the fields of ESG and trade and investment exchanges which are centered around SMEs and startups.

Second, to address the limitations of direct exchanges due to COVID-19, the Centre will continue to enhance contactless interaction through the development of digital culture and tourism contents. We will also launch the “Jeju ASEAN Hall” in the second half of the year to promote greater mutual cultural understanding between ASEAN and Korea.

Third, through the second-year implementation of the “Survey on Mutual Perceptions of ASEAN & Korea Youth”, we will present recommendations for future cooperation and suggest ways to strengthen solidarity and cooperation between ASEAN and Korea through its youths who are future leaders of the partnership. Furthermore, in line with the rapidly accelerating digital era, the Centre will also continue to reinforce its online presence and enhance interactions with peoples of ASEAN and Korea through digital means.

Lastly, the Centre will continue to enhance its expertise and expand the scope of its activities through collaborations and partnerships with key organizations in ASEAN and Korea.

The ASEAN-Korea Centre looks forward to your continuous support and interest as we push ahead with all these efforts in the year 2022. Thank you.
