WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, as part of the U.S.-ASEAN Special Summit, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce hosted ASEAN leaders for a dialogue on how regional governments and the private sector can work together to address pressing challenges like energy security.
The event included U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai, Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Change John Kerry, the US-ASEAN Business Council, and key U.S. business leaders. The business and government leaders discussed ASEAN’s energy needs and ways in which U.S. companies can drive solutions to the region’s energy challenges, particularly in the transition to lower-carbon economies, and how digital technologies can support the region’s many small and medium enterprises.
“American businesses are uniquely positioned to provide the products, services, and technologies to meet the needs of the ASEAN region.” said Myron Brilliant, Executive Vice President and Head of International of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “The U.S. Chamber sees huge opportunity in the ASEAN region and we are committed to working with corporations, the U.S. government, and the governments across the region to deepen commercial ties.
“Collectively, the ASEAN countries purchases nearly $100 billion of U.S. goods and we see the potential to double this in the next five years,” said Myron Brilliant. “The region also plays a critical role in the global supply chains of goods ranging from auto parts and electronics to food, critical minerals, and consumer goods.”
