Aargau, Switzerland – The Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Muliaman Hadad, and the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki, attended the inauguration of the Indonesia Trading House (ITH) at the Pasar Indonesia store in Aargau, Switzerland, on 21 January 2022.

“ITH is expected to be the entry point for Indonesian products, both food and non-food products, to the Swiss and European markets. Indonesia must utilize Switzerland as a Hub for the door of Indonesian products to the European market, as an implementation of the Indonesia-EFTA CEPA agreement,” said Ambassador Muliaman.

Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi (Deputy General Chair Coordinator I of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry), representing the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Trade Attache of the Republic of Indonesia in Geneva, also attended the inauguration.

Catharina Oehler, the owner of Pasar Indonesia AG, is an Indonesian diaspora in Switzerland who has been in business since 1999. Meanwhile, the chairs of the Swiss Bilateral Committee of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Francis Wanandi and Ronald Bonia from Kadinda Papua, were present from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce.

Meanwhile, KADIN Indonesia’s Deputy Head of Coordinator 1 stated that ITH Switzerland is the first KADIN collaboration with a diaspora in Europe and will be replicated in other countries.  “ITH’s inauguration is proof of the success of KADIN’s collaboration with partners in Switzerland (Pasar Indonesia AG). We appreciate the support from the Indonesian Embassy in Bern and the Indonesian Ministry of Trade. In principle, we will continue to support efforts to progress and increase Indonesia’s trade to penetrate the European market,” said Deputy Coordinator I of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Yukki.

“We also understand the main concern of the Indonesian diaspora is the high cost of logistics, hopefully we can find a solution together regarding the logistics issue in question,” continued KADIN Deputy Coordinator I Yukki.

During the inauguration of ITH, Minister Teten expressed his gratitude for the efforts made to establish ITH in Switzerland, particularly for the opportunities for Indonesian MSME products to enter foreign markets, particularly Europe.

“I think now with the support of technology it will be quite easy to help sell Indonesian products through the diaspora network, as long as there is a partner who provides the warehouse,” said Minister Teten.

The Minister also paid attention to the use of market platforms or marketplaces for marketing Indonesian MSME products and their linkages with the ITH network, the Indonesian diaspora, and overseas market players. “So once again I express my highest appreciation to Ms. Catherina and also the extraordinary support of the Ambassador and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Hopefully this can be replicated in various places because now MSME products are also of high quality to meet international standards, “concluded the Minister of Teten when giving a speech at the inauguration of ITH.

The signing of the establishment of the Indonesia Trading House, or ITH, by the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Arsyad Rasyid, during the WEF event at the Indonesia Pavilion on May 24, 2022, was a follow-up to the signing of the establishment of the ITH.
