Finance Minister Ishaq Dar urged the business community on Wednesday to make donations to Turkiye earthquake victims.

Dar met virtually with members of the business community, business leaders, heads of commerce chambers, heads of corporate bodies, bankers, bankers’ associations, and others at the Federal Board of Revenue headquarters (FBR).

The finance minister informed them of the federal cabinet meeting’s decision, made on February 7, 2023, to establish the Prime Minister Relief Fund to assist Turkiye earthquake victims and to stand with a brotherly country in its difficult times.

He also stated that during the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif and cabinet members offered duaé Mughfarat for the earthquake’s deceased as well as a special prayer for the injured in the devastating earthquake for their quick recovery.

Dar informed us that Cabinet members will contribute one month’s salary and government servants above the 18th grade will donate one day’s salary to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the victims of the Turkiye earthquake in order to show solidarity with our brethren nation during this difficult time.

The finance minister went on to say that Pakistan and Turkey have a long history of mutual trust, harmony, and brotherhood. During times of crisis, both countries have supported one another.

He also expressed the government’s and people’s determination to support and stand by their Turkish brothers and sisters during these trying times. The Finance Minister appealed to members of the business community, business leaders, heads of commerce chambers, heads of corporate bodies, bankers, bankers’ associations, and others for generous donations and contributions to relief funds for the earthquake victims in our brotherly country, Turkiye. He also shared the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund account number and title established in the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), namely “Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Turkiye Earthquake Victims.”

During the interaction, Tariq Mehmood Pasha, SAPM on Revenue, Ashfaq Yousuf Tola, SAPM/Chairman RRMC, Asim Ahmad, Chairman FBR, and members of the FBR were also present.

While Sulaiman Chawla, SVP, FPCCI, President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ms. Naima Ansari, President of the Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Irfan Siddiqui, President of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Arif Ehsan Malik, Chairman of the All Pakistan Bedsheets & Upholstery Manufacturers Association, Muhammad Ali Tabba, Chairman of the Ali Hussam Asghar, Chairman of the Pakistan Rice Exporters Association, Ch. Muhammad Zaka Ashraf, Chairman of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, Abrar Hussain, CEO of National Foods Ltd, Muhammad Aurangzeb, President of HBL, President of Faisal Bank Ltd, and other bank and business leaders took part in the discussion.
