JAMMU, January 7: ADC Jammu, Harvinder Singh, today convened a consultative meeting with the Chamber of Commerce and Market Associations in the context of JMC’s action against encroachers on the Canal Road-Jewel-Ghummat stretch aimed at making the city more accessible and encroachment-free.
During the meeting, it was stressed that encroachments such as illegal constructions, the erecting of signboards and hoardings, and illegal constructions on public premises, public roads, and public lanes that caused hindrance and interruption in the free flow and movement of traffic needed to be removed in the best interests of the public at large and to comply with the high court’s order.
Arun Gupta, President of Jammu Chamber of Commerce, informed the Chair of various issues involving market associations, emphasized the importance of such initiatives being undertaken consultatively, and requested time to make shopkeepers aware of the HC’s ruling and motivate them to remove their encroachments from roads, lanes, and pathways on their own, in the best interests of all.
The chamber also assured the administration of its full support and cooperation in making the city more accessible to all under the Smart City Mission.
It is worth noting that the JMC removed encroachments from roadsides and footpaths, such as illegal projections and pedestals, to make way for the construction of wider, continuous, and uniform footpaths to aid in the safe movement of Divyangjans and the general public.
