JAKARTA – The Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) met with representatives from the Malaysian Foreign Trade Promotion Agency and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Sunday to discuss the possibility of future conference collaborations, information exchange, and business matchings.

SCCC President Datuk Frankie Liew, Deputy President Brett Chua, Public Relations Director Jacky Ho, and members KK Lo, Kapitan Foo, Robin Ng, and Wong Ngit Kong will embark on a series of business exploration trips to Indonesia.

They immediately met with many important members of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry after taking the lead in having a dialogue with the Malaysian Foreign Trade Promotion Agency, including the Vice President of International Relations Banatino Vega, the Deputy Director of Industry 4.0 Executive Director Lee Mingchun, and the Chairman of Culture, Art, and Cuisine Iraku Sumavadani, among others.

Anisa Ali, Trade Commissioner of the Malaysian Foreign Trade Promotion Agency in Indonesia, was also in attendance.

At the meeting, everyone introduced the nature of their respective units and the services they provided, with the hope of complementing each other’s advantages in the future, integrating resources and contacts, and achieving a synergistic and reinforcing role so that whether it is a Malaysian Sabah businessman looking to invest in Indonesia or expand their business, or Indonesian companies looking to invest in Sabah, they can find suitable partners or projects through relevant organizations.

According to Anisa, the Malaysian Foreign Trade Promotion Agency primarily assists Malaysian companies in expanding internationally and promoting local products overseas.

She stated that any Malaysian businessmen interested in investing in Indonesia or establishing a company to expand their operations are welcome to contact them, as they will advise them on Indonesian business regulations, taxation, and other issues, as well as provide other assistance.

She also reminded Malaysian businesses to conduct due diligence before seeking local partners in Indonesia.

“Indonesia keeps the data and information of corporate companies relatively confidential. Except for some listed companies, the relevant background information and financial situation can be found on the website and software. The data of private companies is not released to the public. It is necessary to hire a professional company or person to find out more in-depth information.” said Anisa.

Furthermore, she urged Malaysians doing business in Indonesia to strictly adhere to and respect Indonesian authorities’ and culture’s relevant laws and regulations.

“Indonesia’s local business has its own laws and regulations. These are the rules customized by the local government according to its own culture and needs. Since everyone wants to come to the local business, they must accept and abide by it,” she explained.

Liew also agreed with Anisa’s remarks, saying the SCCC as a bridge connecting Sabah to China and the world including ASEAN, is willing to convey various information and wishes to Malaysian businesses and lenders, and also hopes to drive legitimate and formal enterprises to obtain more good expansion, building an international corporate brand in Malaysia.

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a semi-official organization founded by the Indonesian government and the business community in 1968. It serves as the primary link between Indonesian businesses and the government. More emphasis is placed on network and enterprise connectivity. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry provides assistance and support to all businessmen, enterprises, and chambers of commerce.
