The annual convention of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce is being held in downtown Oakland, marking the statewide organization’s first large-scale gathering since the coronavirus outbreak.

The meeting will take place at the Oakland Marriott City Center hotel, a landmark in the city’s downtown district in the East Bay. The gathering started on Thursday and was supposed to last until Saturday, August 13.

“Oakland is such a vibrant and energetic city with a wonderfully diverse population and a wide variety of cultures,” said Julian Canete, president and CEO of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce.

The gathering allows the Hispanic Chambers of Commerce business owners and leaders to assess how they are dealing with the aftermath of the coronavirus and the COVID-related disruptions that continue to plague the economy.

“The 2022 Convention Theme is ‘BE ALL IN,’ emphasizing the tenacity, dedication, grit, and perseverance of our diverse small business owners and their outlook in pursuing their dreams and ambitions,” the statewide chamber organization said in a website post.

The annual gathering was expected to draw over 1,500 The Hispanic Chambers of Commerce business owners and attendees.

“Members from over 120 chambers of commerce and associations from across the state will be here with the intent of networking, seeking business opportunities, and discovering business strategies to survive and thrive in a post-pandemic world,” Canete said.

According to the group, the organization represents the interests of 815,000 Hispanic-owned businesses in California.

“The convention is expected to provide the Oakland community with a significant economic boost,” the group stated on its website.

The convention headquarters are close to the bustling and trendy Uptown district, which features an array of restaurants, nightclubs, entertainment hubs, and live-performance venues.
