On Monday, Nov. 21, the 31st annual Floyd Chamber Membership Dinner kicks off with a silent auction at the Floyd EcoVillage. The meeting’s business will include the election of Chamber Board members. Re-election campaigns are underway for Alee Epperly (Dogtown Roadhouse), Stephanie Yates (Hollandsworth and Vose), and Craig Chancellor (Thomas and Wall Real Estate).

Marks Harris (Farm Bureau Insurance), Jarrod Lusk (Skyline Bank), Rose Thomas (Rose’s Cookie Shop), Draken Thompson (Blue Ridge Land and Auction), Taylor Meredith (Carter Bank and Trust), and Josh Stokes are among the new nominees for the board (Citizens Telephone Cooperative).

The annual Chamber awards will be presented on Nov. 21, and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The menu includes:

Main course:

  • Slow-roasted beef tips in a savory tomato and red wine sauce
  • Grilled chicken with Mediterranean spices and tzatziki yogurt sauce (GF)
  • Marinated Grilled Portabella Mushrooms (vegan/GF)

Side Dishes:

  • Seasonal Vegetables Roasted (GF/Vegan)
  • Rice Pilaf (GF/Vegan)
  • Garden Salad with house-made ranch or vinaigrette dressing (GF and vegan)

Dessert:

  • Fresh Berries on Bread Pudding with White Chocolate Rum Sauce

A cash bar will serve wine, beer, and a limited selection of liquor. Tickets are $35 for chamber members in good standing.

Nominations for the annual awards are due by November 11. Nominations for Business of the Year, Nonprofit of the Year, and Business Leader of the Year can be submitted at https://forms.gle/qw3D3sZXE7RucshaA.

Tickets are also available at the Floyd Chamber/Floyd Visitors Center (109 E. Main St.) Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Nominees

The nominating committee presented the slate of nominations for election or reelection to the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, which was accepted by a vote of the board members present at a special chamber board meeting.

Current board members seeking reelection are: Alee Epperly, Dogtown Roadhouse (2023-2025); Stephanie Yates, Hollandsworth & Vose (2023-2025); and Craig Chancellor, Thomas & Wall Real Estate (2023-2025). Right of Petition

The current chamber by-laws contain the following information about a chamber member’s right to petition to nominate a candidate for election to the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Section 5: Director Nominations and Elections

Nominations by Petition: Additional names for Directors may be nominated by petition with the genuine signatures of at least ten (10) qualified Chamber members in good standing. Such petition must be filed with the Directors’ Nominating Committee within ten (10) days of the names of those nominated being announced. The Directors’ Nominating Committee’s decision on the legality of the petition(s) is final.

Election: At the annual membership meeting, the proposed slate of nominees, including those nominated by petition, will be presented to the membership for election. If a member is unable to attend the annual membership meeting, he or she may vote by email or proxy through any member of the Board.
