BALI, INDONESIA – Myron Brilliant, Executive Vice President and Head of International Affairs at the United States Chamber of Commerce, issued the following statement while attending the B20 Summit in Indonesia ahead of the G20 Summit:

“Both the B20 Summit and the need for multilateral approaches have never been more critical as the world faces interconnected global challenges, such as the lingering effects of the COVID pandemic, historic inflation, supply chain disruptions, worker shortages, rising energy costs, climate change, increasing tensions between the United States and China, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”

“We are all dealing with enormous uncertainty and instability.” This is yet another reason for the G20 economies to increase their collective efforts. When climate, inflation, and other challenges are global, not just domestic, now is not the time for any country to look inward for solutions. It is critical that countries collaborate.

“The United States Chamber of Commerce and its B20 counterparts issued a number of policy recommendations in the critical areas of trade, energy and climate, digital transition, and infrastructure finance.” Among them is the promotion of pro-growth trade policies. The US Chamber of Commerce applauds the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) for their efforts as B20 chair to advance cooperation around these recommendations, which we witnessed firsthand as we participated in key B20 task forces and the B20 International Advocacy Caucus throughout the year. With India taking over as chair next month, the US Chamber looks forward to building on these achievements with the Indian government and business community.

“We urge the G20 leaders to act quickly to address these pressing issues, as well as to continue to rely on the private sector and implement B20 recommendations.” We recognize that the problems are enormous, but the public and private sectors can work together to chart a prosperous path forward.”
