Recently, our Waterbury Regional Chamber’s board of directors unanimously elected Rich DuPont, president of Resource Development Associates, as chairman of its board.

DuPont replaces Donald C. McPartland of the Zeldas, Needle & Cooper law firm, who held the voluntary leadership position for the past two years.

Moving up into the position of vice chair is Mary M. Rosengrant-Chiappalone, a partner with the Waterbury-based real estate appraisal firm, Biondi & Rosegrant.

On behalf of the chamber, we would like to thank McPartland for his valuable insight to our board and its members, and his help in strengthening our programming and advocacy work. His strong leadership was essential as the chamber adapted outreach during the pandemic while facing other organizational challenges during his tenure.

DuPont’s election comes at a unique and important time as our region continues its economic recovery from the effects of COVID-19. His expertise in business growth and workforce development will benefit the chamber and its membership. DuPont’s track record of helping businesses become more efficient can help grow our region’s business community.

DuPont has more than 30 years of experience working in the energy industry helping businesses reduce operating costs. Resource Development Associates, based in Watertown, provides strategic planning to clients in the commercial, industrial, public sector, municipal, nonprofit and residential industries throughout New England.

The state of Connecticut has remained committed to investing in workforce development initiatives following the height of the pandemic by investing in programs with both state and federal dollars.

With DuPont’s experience, combined with the chamber’s role in promoting all the valuable resources of the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board, the chamber can take full advantage of these new offerings on behalf of our members and all businesses in Greater Waterbury.

BEFORE THE CHAMBER’S 131ST ANNUAL MEETING earlier this spring, three new members were elected to join the board of directors: Hedy Ayers, community relations and economic development specialist at Eversource; Rosemary Briglia, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Thomaston Savings Bank; and Nick Zaino, attorney at Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey. The knowledge that these individuals bring to the rest of the board will play a crucial role in helping businesses across our region make a rebound and find the workers they need to get back to capacity.

The Waterbury Regional Chamber is dedicated to strengthening the regional economy by serving its members as a network, resource and advocate. As the premier voice of business in the region, the chamber’s mission is to create strategic partnerships and alliances between businesses and their markets and to speak and act on their behalf on matters of public interest. Since our founding in 1889, we have weathered two world wars, the pandemic of 1918, the Great Depression, other global conflicts and economic turmoil. Our work will not stop now.

Please join me in congratulating our new chairman and board. We look forward to continuing our work bolstering new economic prosperity in the region.
