Adi Mahfudz Wuhadji, deputy of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), stated on Wednesday that mass layoffs can be avoided by promoting bipartite communication between business owners and workers. He claims that doing so will allow both parties to understand a company’s limit in terms of paying workers’ wages.

“In addition, workers or laborers should continue to strive to increase work productivity so that it can be achieved at the actual wage level in accordance with their competence,” Adi said in an interview with Tempo on Wednesday, November 9.

Adi believes that in order for businesses to continue operating in good faith, they must be two sides of an inseparable coin. As a result, the capabilities of the company can be tailored to the capabilities of the manufacturing process.

Adi explained that if the company’s performance deteriorates, there are alternatives to layoffs, such as reducing wages and non-essential worker facilities. reducing or eliminating work shifts, working hours, or overtime hours

“The government must also remain fully engaged in the mentoring and monitoring processes, as well as providing long-term strategic policies.” “It provides certainty of protection for employers and workers so that business and work continuity can be maintained,” Adi explained.
