When we talk about the Alexandria Chamber, the field will be long because it is one of the commercial edifices in Egypt that has been established from a national standpoint and since the date of its inception 1922 when the first meeting was held for its establishment. The Egyptian industrialists are facing the economic developments that the country was witnessing in light of a national movement calling for economic liberation and raising the slogan of the Egyptian industry and its protection.

In it, the poet of Arab countries,   Khalil Bey Mutran  , said a poem in it that may seem to you at first glance that he wrote it for his girlfriend or a girl with whom he was flirting, but the strange thing is that he wrote this poetry to celebrate the opening of the Chamber of Commerce in Alexandria.

The Alexandria Chamber had and still has its national supportive positions for the successive Egyptian governments, especially in times of adversity and crises, and their role in maintaining the integrity of the national economy, the stability of markets, and the preservation of the Egyptian consumer. Including the merchants, the lifting of restrictions on his trade, the issue of reducing the freight of ships and railways, the reduction of floor fees, the issue of reducing the tram tariff and returning it to what it was after the drop in fuel costs, the issue of complaint about the estimation of property revenues and other problems that preoccupied the merchants and concern the city in general in those years The first of the room’s life is not this, but it was the most keen on the safety of Egyptian workers, so its distinguished role at the beginning of its reign drew the attention of the Alexandria Municipality and the Ministry of Interior since 1923 to the poor health condition in the national neighborhoods, especially the Karmouz section, which is inhabited by it.

And because the issue of training was and still is one of the things that the Chamber puts on its list of priorities to raise the efficiency of workers in the field of trade, the Chamber has adopted, since its establishment in 1922, the organization of training courses in the art of Arabic shorthand at the Chamber’s center 3 times a week for traders, students and those wishing to develop their professional performance as it was It organizes courses to guide merchants on what should be followed in organizing and coordinating their books and taking care of their accuracy so that they are legal books worthy of the dignity of commerce and merchants. For this great national economic edifice, the Chamber was able, and in 1927, to stand in the face of foreign traders when they opposed the royal decree on the rules for establishing joint-stock companies, as it rejected all attempts by foreign chambers to cancel this decree, stressing that the Chamber could not challengeThe Egyptian government authorities, in particular, consider that the royal decree regarding the establishment of joint-stock companies does not harm the interests of its members, but is, on the contrary, appropriate to the general common economic interests, as it ensures that the board of directors of each Egyptian joint-stock company has two national members and that a quarter of its employees who hold clerical positions The Chamber played a leading role in supporting and encouraging the national industry through the establishment of permanent exhibitions to promote the national industry, as the largest part of this giant building was an exhibition of national products. Establishing a system to lend to the exhibitors participating in the Chambers of Commerce exhibitions from manufacturers by guaranteeing their exhibits and at an interest not exceeding 2 or 3%, as the purpose of these advances is to encourage and assist manufacturers, and in continuation of its role in encouraging the national industry, the Chamber has prepared a commercial guide for the city of Alexandria in both Arabic languages. The French satisfies the needs of merchants, manufacturers, tourists and others. The Chamber is also the first to think of obtaining a certificate of origin for national goods, with the beginning of its establishment in 1922, and the Alexandria Chamber was the permanent supporter of the movement of chambers of commerce in Egypt, since 1925 it adopted the idea of establishing a general union of chambers of commerce and it appeared to exist Indeed, through a conference of chambers organized by the Alexandria Chamber, in coordination with the Cairo Chamber, in February of 1926, the Council of the General Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce in Cairo was elected from Abdel Hamid Pasha El-Deeb, President of the Alexandria Chamber, as President of the Federation, Taha Bey El-Sergany, Mohamed Zaki Bey El-Sheety as Vice President, and Mohamed Ismail Obada Treasurer, Ali Bey Shukri Khamis, Secretary General of the Alexandria Chamber, Secretary General of the Union, Abdel Aziz Bey Radwan, Muhammad Bey Badawy, Hussein Bey Ajami, Muhammad Effendi Hassan Al-Iskandarani, Nassif Effendi Mahrous, Sheikh Ahmed Badawi and Muhammad Effendi Shaban, members of all these strong beginnings were the basis for a work and activity that continued onFor more than 86 years.
