The Chamber of Commerce for the southern part of Tunisia was created in 1892 by decree of the general resident of the French Republic of March 19, 1892 (JORT n ° 12 of March 24, 1892). It includes the regions of Sousse, Kairouan, Sfax, Djerba, Tozeur and the military territories of Gabès and Gafsa and was headquartered in Sousse.

In 1895 , the chamber took a new name and became the Mixed Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture of the Center limiting its constituency to the regions of Sousse, Kairouan and Kasserine and this by decree of May 27, 1895 (JORT n ° 24 of May 31, 1895 )

After independence , the chamber took a new name and became the Central Chamber of Commerce in accordance with Law No. 57-67 of December 31, 1957 and is now part of four existing chambers throughout Tunisia, thus endowing the chamber with an exclusive sector: trade

In 1988 , a new regulatory framework was promulgated in view of reactivating the role of the chambers of commerce and industry and giving them more prerogatives, under the terms of law n°88-43 of May 19, 1988 , a new Territorial constituency was set under Decree No. 88-1027 of June 6, 1988 . the central chamber of commerce and industry now includes the governorates of Sousse, Monastir, Kairouan, Mahdia and Kasserine

In 1992 , the number of chambers of commerce and industry doubled from four to eight , under law n°92-112 of November 23, 1992 , a new territorial constituency of chambers of commerce and industry was determined. and this by virtue of the decree n ° 93-1190 of May 24, 1993 , the chamber of commerce and industry of the center brings together the governorates of Sousse, Monastir, Kairouan and Mahdia

In 2006, a redefinition of the role of the Tunisian Chambers of Commerce and Industry was introduced under Law No. 2006-75 of November 30, 2006, thus repealing Law No. 88-43 of May 19, 1988. a the composition of the structures of the chambers (the committee, the office and the commissions) was also redefined by decrees n° 2007-80 of January 15, 2007 and n° 2007-81 of January 15, 2007 .

In 2013 , the mode of organization and functioning of the structures of the chambers as well as the mode of the election of the members of the committees and the registration on the electoral lists were revised and this, respectively, under the terms of the decrees n ° 2013 -1331 and n°2013-1332 of March 7, 2013
