Our room is notable for being among the top five chambers of commerce established in Turkey. The seal of the Chamber of Commerce of 1901 is preserved by the family of the late president Baha Shikman. The building owned by the Chamber in 1940 was demolished in the 1957 earthquake and, like all the people of Fethiye, the Fethiye Chamber of Commerce suffered great damage. Documents and information regarding the first members of the Chamber were lost due to the earthquake of Fethiye in 7.17 magnitude in 1957 and the fire in the Chamber building on 07.01.1962. Unfortunately, the economic history of Fethiye and the institutional memory of the Chamber have been erased and burned down by these two unfortunate events.
