At the beginning of 1950, merchants in the city of Irbid felt their need for an institution that would take care of their interests and serve them, so a number of them submitted a request to the Ministry of Industry and Trade to approve the establishment of a Chamber of Commerce in Irbid. Ali Abu Obaid, its first president.

After the end of the first session of the board of directors in 1954, elections were held for the board and the late Mufleh Hassan Gharaibeh was elected as president and he continued to preside over the chamber for successive sessions until May 1983, when he moved to the mercy of God Almighty. He was succeeded in the presidency by Hajj Saadi Al-Halbouni and for the following sessions until the end of the session in 1995. After that, a council headed by Mr. Muhammad Al-Shouha was elected until the end of the session in 1999, then he rotated the presidency for the session that was followed by Messrs. Abdullah Al-Aqeel for the years 2000-2001 and Muhammad Al-Shuha for the years 2002-2003.

Subsequently, the boards of directors of all chambers of commerce were dissolved and committees were appointed to manage them until 2009, when the current board was elected headed by Mr. Muhammad Al-Shuha.

The Chamber, throughout its long journey, has spared no effort in its boards of directors in carrying out activities and providing services to all its members and various sectors, and one of the results of its work and endeavors was to respond to the development of the first law to encourage investment and to accept its proposals when amending some tax laws and to participate in the study of a number of bills related to economic matters and to participate in Committees to study development plans, and the establishment of Yarmouk University, from which the University of Science and Technology emerged, and the establishment of many industrial projects after the establishment of Al-Hassan Industrial City, where many Jordanian, Arab and foreign investors have come to establish their industries and projects in it and it is constantly expanding

Services provided by the room:

Medical clinics: The Chamber has worked to establish medical clinics equipped with the latest therapeutic devices that provide medical examination services to traders and their families in general medicine clinics for free. It contains dental and pediatric clinics and a laboratory that provides all laboratory tests, and a device for detecting breast cancer is available.

Training and Business Development Center: The Chamber has opened a training center for all members of the local community and the General Authority that offers training courses in computer, English, German, accounting and other courses according to requirements at the hands of qualified trainers, in addition to signing many cooperation agreements in the field of training with a number of institutions such as Association of Chartered Accountants Company Optimal Municipalities.

And in implementation of the visions of His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein, the Chamber implemented the single window project, which opens the way for the auditors to finish all their transactions from one place, which saves their time and effort, as it worked to open the following offices in its building:

1- The facilities center of the Greater Irbid municipality: through which professions licenses are issued to traders, as the dealer completes the entire licensing transaction from the Chamber of Commerce.

2- Companies Controller Office: It facilitated the work of company owners and saved them the trouble of traveling to Amman to register or amend the company. This office serves the entire northern region.

3- Notary Public Office: It made it easier for citizens and shortened the trouble of going to the competent court after ratifying the guarantee at the Chamber of Commerce.

Social Solidarity Fund: The Chamber worked on establishing a social solidarity fund for traders, aiming to achieve solidarity among the participating members of the Chamber’s merchants and employees in a manner that ensures the provision of adequate social care for their families after them in the event of the death of one of its members.
With regard to health insurance, in addition to medical clinics: The Chamber signed two health insurance agreements for its members at Al-Qawasmi Hospital and the Founding King Abdullah bin Al-Hussein Hospital, according to which the merchant and his family members are granted a 25% discount on all treatments. It also granted Jadara Medical Laboratories in agreement with Mr. Rais Chamber of Commerce for examinations that are not available in the Chamber’s clinics. All members of the Chamber and their families 40% discount on all medical examinations.

Disaster and Emergency Fund: The Chamber provides a disaster fund to assist merchants whose shops may be exposed to fire or any other disaster by granting them good interest-free loans.

Arbitration: The Chamber resolves many disputes that arise between traders through arbitration without referring to the courts and the judiciary.

Issues and problems facing merchants: The Chamber adopts all the issues and problems facing merchants and works hard to solve them with the competent authorities.

Meetings: The Chamber holds many meetings and meetings that bring together traders and officials with the aim of introducing them to the laws that affect their business and interests, and discussing matters and matters related to trade and the obstacles encountered in order to find effective solutions to them, such as the meetings held with the Director of Sales and Income Taxes and the Director General of Customs.

Laws, regulations and instructions: In the event of any instructions issued by the competent departments related to trade, the Chamber circulates them to merchants to keep them informed of all developments and benefit from them. The Chamber is also working on studying economic bills and presenting proposals to amend them in order to serve the commercial sector and meet its aspirations.

The Municipality: The Chamber works and coordinates with the Greater Irbid Municipality to facilitate the procedures of licensing commercial shops transactions, remove any obstacles to the commercial movement in the city, cooperate in organizing this process according to the rules of regulation in force in the municipality, and address any problems and complaints submitted by merchants as a result of the application of these regulations.

Providing information: The Chamber provides business owners and researchers with all the information they need through its subscription to the World Wide Web.

Chamber halls: The Chamber provides its halls for holding various seminars, lectures, courses and workshops for everyone who needs them without charge.
Practical training in the chamber’s departments: the chamber receives numbers of male and female students from community colleges and universities for training according to the courses required of them, and it also trains recent graduates for the purpose of giving them practical experience.

Archiving records: The Chamber has created a modern electronic system to archive the entire records of merchants and all incoming and outgoing books, making it easier for the merchant to obtain information as soon as possible.
