The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) was established in 1967 by merging its predecessor, the Automobile Manufacturers Association, and the Japan Small Automobile Manufacturers Association, with members that manufacture automobiles such as passenger cars, trucks, buses, and motorcycles in Japan. and consists of 14 automakers. In May 2002, it merged with the Japan Automobile Industry Promotion Association and the Federation of Automobile Industry Employers, and in April 2010, it changed from an incorporated association to a general incorporated association. In 2020, we implemented a major review of the committee organization and the secretariat organization, and have reached the present.

The automobile industry is a comprehensive industry with a wide range of related industries such as production, sales, maintenance, and transportation. It occupies an important position as one of the key industries that support the Japanese economy, accounting for about 18% of the value of shipments of manufactured goods and about 40% of the machinery industry. Furthermore, as the globalization of the automobile industry accelerates in recent years, we are contributing greatly to the development of societies and economies around the world.

JAMA is working to contribute to the sound development of the Japanese automobile industry and related industries, the realization of a sustainable economy and mobility society, and the resolution of social issues. In today’s world, where the impact of trends in the automobile industry is growing, we are more aware than ever of our role and mission, and will actively work toward the realization of a prosperous automobile society.
