The Intellectual Property Society of Japan was established in October 2002 to promote needs-oriented intellectual property studies, led by researchers who create intellectual property and business owners who use it.
It seeks participation from a wide range of people interested in intellectual property, and promotes research activities centered on interdisciplinary fields such as law, economics, management, and international relations on the creation, protection, and utilization of science and technology and content. I aim to go

On June 5, 2002, it was decided that the Intellectual Property Association of Japan would be established by the Founders’ Association (Chairman: Hiroyuki Yoshikawa). (Photo: Representative founder meeting)
On October 11, 2002, the inaugural general meeting was held at the Gakushi Kaikan, and the company was officially launched.
It became an incorporated association on August 22, 2006, and was reorganized as a general incorporated association on April 1, 2011, following the reform of the public interest corporation system in 2008.

The Intellectual Property Association of Japan was established as a voluntary organization in 2002 with the aim of promoting interdisciplinary research toward building a society based on intellectual property. After that, it was reorganized as an incorporated association and then reorganized as a general incorporated association. We have actively engaged in activities such as human resource development through support and academic encouragement, as well as the compilation of policy proposals.

Human resources with knowledge of intellectual property are essential for all types of innovation, such as industry-academia-government collaboration, corporate strategy planning, and venture start-ups. In addition, today, even those who are not directly involved in IP-related work cannot carry out their duties without contact with IP. Through the activities of this society, we must develop capable human resources who will create, protect, and utilize intellectual property that is indispensable for the future development of Japan. From this perspective, there are many issues surrounding intellectual property that need to be addressed. Today, information goods have come to have far greater influence on social and economic activities than physical resources. And it is essential to accumulate and systematize the knowledge related to the management. In particular, among information goods, the management of intellectual property protected by the intellectual property system is considered to be a new issue that has not yet been systematically tackled even within academia. In addition, there was no evidence that companies and universities based on the utilization of science and technology and contents related to the intellectual property system were sufficiently strategically managed. Furthermore, there are many issues that must be established in the same way for the education system for human resource development related to management.

The Intellectual Property Association of Japan recognizes the following as challenges facing Japan in innovation.

  1. Necessity to develop a knowledge system that contributes to problem solving from the standpoint of practitioners
  2. Necessity of Policy Proposals Based on Practical Academic Research
  3. Necessity of nurturing new specialists such as creation, protection, and utilization of technology and content, and
extensive human resource development related to intellectual property
  4. Necessity of establishing a body of knowledge for its education

With this recognition, we have decided to make a fresh start as a general incorporated association in order to implement projects that meet the needs of the public interest and to develop human resources for a wide range of subjects. “Knowledge” is an important resource for Japan. “Knowledge” is born not only in academic research, but also in climate, culture, and everyday life. We must strive to make that seed of knowledge become wisdom, wisdom, hope, and a source of prosperity and happiness for people. With an interdisciplinary perspective, the Intellectual Property Association of Japan contributes to the intellectual creation cycle based on cutting-edge science and technology and content, and researches and provides a body of knowledge related to intellectual property management and human resource development. As a society, we will continue to actively engage in activities.
