The proposal made by the Deputy Ambassador for Germany in Sri Lanka Dr. Hans Von Bothmer resulted in the formation of Sri Lanka – Germany Business Council and Mr. R Sivaratnam, Chairman and Managing Director, Aitken Spence & Co. Ltd., was appointed as the 1st President of the Council.

The Council continues to develop new initiatives and areas of corporation between business communities of the two countries with the exchange of trade missions, delegations, new investments and joint ventures.

Objectives of the Sri Lanka – Germany Business Council
– To promote trade, tourism and services between Sri Lanka and Germany and in particular to promote exports from Sri Lanka to Germany.
– To encourage German investment and establishment of joint ventures in Sri Lanka between German and Sri Lanka investors.
– To exchange information on trade and investment with the appropriate bodies in Germany.
– To conduct joint meetings with German business organisations in Sri Lanka and in Germany.
– To serve as a recognised representative of business sector interests in Sri Lanka in matters concerning business relationships with Germany.
– To promote Sri Lankan participation in international fairs in Germany.
– To co-operate with the Government of Sri Lanka in the pursuit of the above objectives.
– To undertake all matters that are incidental or conducive to attaining the above objectives.
