About Japanese Business Association of Cambodia (JBAC)

This Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established in 1992, and has been working with the aim of contributing to the development of commerce and industry of Japanese companies in Cambodia and economic activities between the two countries.

After the peace process, Cambodia held a general election in 1993 and enacted a constitution. After a period of recovery, Cambodia entered a period of growth in the 2000s. The major industries are garment industry, agriculture, tourism and real estate construction, and China is currently the leader in foreign direct investment.

Since 2010, the number of Japanese companies entering the market has increased. Manufacturing exports have contributed to Cambodia’s economic growth, transforming it from a low-income country to a lower-middle-income country. In the process of people getting richer, the number of members has continued to grow as more people have entered into domestic demand such as real estate, consumption and service fields.

In 2011, the association was registered as an association of commerce and industry with the Ministry of Commerce, and in 2012, the membership organization shifted to a subcommittee system for each industry. In 2015, we introduced a committee system to deal with individual issues, making organizational activities smoother and evolving.

Currently, we are strengthening the cooperation between the public and private sectors to flexibly respond to changes in the business environment, building relationships with Cambodian government counterparts, and cooperating with various stakeholders to solve as many issues as possible. We will continue to strive for further development of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
