The Sri Lanka – Canada Business Council was inaugurated on August 14, 1991 and functions under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

Its primary objectives are to promote investment and bilateral trade, to exchange trade and investment information with relevant institutions in Canada, to encourage the setting up of joint ventures and to serve as a recognized representative of business sector interests in Sri Lanka in matters concerning business relationship with Canada. The SLCBC also serves to promote tourism between Sri Lanka and Canada, to promote exports from Sri Lanka to Canada and to conduct joint meetings with Canadian business organisations in Sri Lanka and in Canada.

The SLCBC serves a membership of over fifty companies. Its primary objectives are to promote investment and bilateral trade, to exchange trade and investment information with relevant institutions in Canada, to encourage the setting up of joint ventures and to serve as a recognized representative of business sector interests in Sri Lanka in matters concerning business relationship with Canada.

– To promote tourism and trade between Sri Lanka and Canada and in particular to promote exports from Sri Lanka to Canada.
– To encourage the establishment of joint ventures in Sri Lanka between Canada and Sri Lankan investors.
– To exchange information on trade and investment with the relevant institutions in Canada.
– To conduct joint meetings with Canadian business organisations in Sri Lanka and in Canada.
– To serve as a recognised representative of business sector interests in Sri Lanka in matters concerning business relationships with Canada.
– To co – operate with the Government of Sri Lanka in the pursuit of the above objects.
– To undertake all matters that are incidental or conducive to attaining the above objectives.
– Provide options for businesses to support the welfare and training of women and marginalized youth.
– Facilitate forums for linking businesses and training institutions to help, promoting equity in training and in employment and ensuring that vocational training programs offered in the country address market requirements to promote exports from Sri Lanka to Canada and to conduct joint meetings with Canadian business organisations in Sri Lanka and in Canada.
– To Promote Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program support for the welfare of vocational training students in need.
– To promote executive exchange program with Sri Lanka / Canadian organisations.
– To collaborate with all Canadian or Canadian funded local or international institution’s, organization, associations and service providers to achieve there desired objectives.
