The Jaffna Merchants Association is a large organization with a long historical heritage. Although it was started many years ago, it is an organization that has overcome many obstacles and has been carrying out administrative activities.

The Jaffna Peninsula has continued its operations since 1996, which is the post-migration period. Although there have been some interruptions in the activities due to the war situation and some unusual circumstances, we have worked together with government and non-government organizations to fulfill our purpose in carrying out trade and economic activities.

The contribution of the Jaffna Traders Association in the period from 1996 to 2009 in the supply of food and essential goods by sea to the Northern Province due to the disruption in the use of the A9 route due to the war was commendable. In this way, it has played a major humanitarian role beyond the profit motive to save people from starvation.

We are operating as an organization with our own land and buildings registered under the Companies Act. Our mission is to enrich our region in terms of trade and economy and social work through livelihood assistance programs for war affected people, school integration of war affected school dropouts, educational development, educational development and accommodation for underprivileged children and social work, disaster relief activities, development work and economic self-reliance of Northern Province. We are working with dedication in our effort to find self-sufficiency. We will continue to carry out our work with determination in the future.
