Flood Warning (Severe) – Tennessee: Lake, TN Milan Chamber Gala celebrates community members making a difference

MILAN, Tenn. — One local community celebrates the accomplishments made throughout their community in business, education and leadership.

The Milan Chamber of Commerce honored local residents for their outstanding work in helping the community grow at Thursday evening’s event.

We’re giving out awards for Milanite of the Year, Business of the Year, and Educator of the Year. So those are our three big awards, we had many nominees for each category. We’re super excited about that this year to recognize our nominees and to award the winners,” said Kayley Coday, executive director of the Milan Chamber of Commerce.

Selecting nominees and winners for this night is not an easy task and takes some help from others to complete the task.

“So we appoint a committee and they go through the applications through and through, and rate them. Then we get our high scores back and that’s how they’re chosen,” said Coday.

Each nominee was honored with a certificate for the accomplishment. While the winners were given plaques and surprised by their family and friends.

“We have a lot of awesome businesses here so I’m excited to highlight just a couple of those awesome businesses,” said Coday.

This is the chamber’s volunteers’ busiest night to make sure everything goes smoothly, but no doubt their favorite night.

“It’s just to bring the community together and expose each other to one another and network and just show how awesome Milan has grown, over the past year,” said Coday.

The City of Milan also has some big news to celebrate too.

“We’ve had $6.8 million set aside for us. So we’re super excited about that. We’re finally going to get the opportunity to purchase this arsenal property in the next couple of months. Our mayors excited, we’re so thankful to representative brock martin and senator john Stevens for all his help on that,” said Coday.

Congratulations to the winners from Thursday night: Brittany Reeves for Educator of the Year, Chris Williams with Greenway Nursery for Business of the Year, and Scarlet Elliot for Milanite of the Year.
