Hispanic Chamber recognizes local businesses, leaders
(Seguin) — Some of Seguin’s champion leaders and entrepreneurs were recognized during last night’s 36th annual Seguin-Guadalupe County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Awards banquet.
The batch of awards was presented to those who have made a lasting impact on Seguin over the past year.
Topping the list of award recipients was this year’s Businessman of the Year. The award was presented to Julio Rodriguez, Sr., owner of J&A Auto Collision Center and J-Rod Auto Sales. This year’s Businesswoman of the Year Award went to a trio of recipients which included Linda Reyes, Christina Reyes, and Dunia Reyes of Reyes & Family Insurance Agency.
Other honorees included Yolanda Garcia, PEIMS Coordinator for Seguin ISD. Garcia received the Vickie De La Rosa Academic Merit Award for her dedication to educational excellence.
The Corporate Business Award this year was presented to Jade Gloria, General Manager of AutoZone.
Eric Norman was honored with the Pete Garza, Sr. Community Service Award, celebrating his dedication to local service efforts. Long-time charitable volunteers Lee and Len Wilson were also honored with this year’s Humanitarian Award.
Renowned Tejano music star Bobby Pulido received this year’s Rosita Ornelas Media Award. Pulido also opened the evening by singing the national anthem.
Eliseo Alex Cano, Jr., an interventionist and coach at Seguin ISD and Victoria Raquel Medina, a Seguin ISD student, both received the Youth Leadership Award.
Presented with this year’s Patriot Award was Kevin Baker, road captain for the American Legion Riders Chapter 245.
The Juan Seguin Award, which was kept a surprise until its announcement, was finally unveiled and presented to Josh Schneuker, the executive director of the Seguin Economic Development Corporation.
Finally, the Chairperson’s Director of the Year Award was shared by two dedicated members of the Seguin Hispanic Chamber. They included Santos Castillo, the group’s secretary, and Joe Rea, the chamber’s vice chairman.
The special guest speaker for the evening was Ruben Perez, Seguin native and a former attorney from Houston who was featured in the Chicano Squaddocumentary released last year on the Discovery Channel.
Entertainment throughout the evening was also provided by the Seguin High School Mariachi Band. Leading this year’s program was newly elected Hispanic chamber president and chairman Lewis Q. Reyes.
