Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services was established in 1979 as a branch of the Arab Family Organization in the Gulf region and the Arabian Peninsula. Emiri Decree No. 6/1981 dated 11/3/1981 was issued by the Government of Sharjah. 81 dated 11/3/1981 on behalf of the Government of Sharjah. 

The city continued to operate as a voluntary non-governmental organization. Education, training and rehabilitation services were provided to persons with disabilities in the country until His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah issued on the tenth of October 1995 Emiri Decree No. 4 of 1995 regarding the status of the city to become an independent civil institution to empower people with disabilities enjoy legal personality and full capacity to undertake the legal actions necessary to achieve their goals and have financial and administrative independence.

The city is honored by the honorary presidency of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who has been – and still is – the first supporter to provide material and moral support to the city, in his belief in the importance of voluntary work in social development and the importance of providing education, training and rehabilitation services for people with disabilities as really legitimate for them.

Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services is one of the institutions of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah. It undertakes the tasks of empowerment, training, education, rehabilitation and employment for people with disabilities (disabled and orphans) of different ages and nationalities in the United Arab Emirates, in addition to social, educational and awareness services for people with disabilities in particular and for society in particular  general.
