Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable growing area is 1,685,000 ha, of which 910,000 ha, fruit 775,000 ha, annual output is 17,653,100 tons. Of which, 10,969,300 tons of vegetables, 6,500,000 tons of fruit (2007 data of the Crop Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development). Every year, Vietnam exports about 300 million USD of vegetables and fruits to over 30 markets in Asia, Europe and North America.

Vietnamese vegetables and fruits are rare, delicious and rare tropical fruits and vegetables that can only be grown in Vietnam and a few neighboring countries of Vietnam (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia) such as mango, dragon fruit, custard apple, longan, etc. durian, rambutan, mangosteen, .. some vegetables.

Due to the diverse climatic and soil conditions of Vietnam, Vietnam’s vegetables and fruits are also very diverse, with many different types and harvested all year round to meet domestic and export requirements.

Vietnam is applying advanced techniques to grow seedless fruits, organic fruits, medicinal fruits, fruits grown from imported varieties, etc.

Vietnam has a large labor force, Vietnamese workers are industrious and have a lot of experience in growing vegetables and fruits.

About farming Vietnam has applied IPM for many years and is applying GlobalGap

Regarding processing, Vietnam has built many fruit and vegetable processing factories with modern equipment imported from EU, US, Japan…. Main products are canned, frozen, fruit juice concentrate, dried. Factories are applying BRC, HACCP…

In terms of export, the main products are pineapple, lychee, rambutan, dragon fruit, mango, coconut, grapefruit, cucumber …, the main markets are EU, US, Japan, China, Taiwan, Russia, SGP, Hongkong…

The Vietnamese government has a policy to encourage the export of fruits and vegetables, and has set up two programs:

1. Exporting fruits and vegetables for 10 years (2001-2010) met the export requirements of 1 billion USD of vegetables and fruits by 2010.

2. The 10-year vegetable seed program (2001-2010) met the requirements of creating new, good varieties for export.
